H.R.6867 has passed and been signed into law at the White House

November 24, 2008 by: Robin

The Emergency Unemployment Compensation Act of 2008 has been passed and was signed into law November 21, 2008.

OpenCongress Summary:
This bill would provide for seven more weeks of unemployment insurance benefits for those whose benefits have run out, but still have not found work. In states with an unemployment rate above six percent - like Rhode Island, Michigan and California - the bill would provide for an additional 13 weeks of extended benefits.

Senator Graham of South Carolina voted YES on this bill as Senator Demint of South Carolina voted NO. There has been no comment on Senator Demint as to why he voted NO on this much needed extention.

Total votes in the Senate were 89 - Yes, 6 - No and 4 - Abstain Votes

What were these 10 people thinking that either voted no or did not vote at all? Do they not realize the state that the job market is in right now?

South Carolina will be allowed to add an additional 13 weeks of unemployment, since states with higher than 6 percent unemployment rates will get an additional 13 weeks of help.

The unemployment rate (depending where you look at) in South Carolina right now is anywhere between 7 to 10 percent. Keep in mind that many people out of work are not being counted because they have used up all their unemployment allowed. With this coming into effect, I am sure that figure will rise.

Congress and Obama have a plan for after 7 weeks - right? In 7 weeks they will have created enough jobs to take care of this problem - right? They are giving the wrong people the money here. AIG has nothing to do with me. Give me that kind of money and I’d see to it there were some jobs created. Reccession? What reccession. Iv’e been in one my whole life!!
